The Way to the Rising Sun

Paris September 27, 2018.

Excited I am about to take the plane to find Japan, a country that I particularly like.

9:12 am, On the Tarmac at Paris Charles de Gaulle airport, I see the remains of the Concorde. It reminds me of my childhood. In Nice, I often took the time to watch it land. To tell the truth, it was such a uproar, we didn't really have a choice.

99:28 am, First corner.

A long time ago I bought a Fish Eye type lens. The 8mm F3.5 EX DG CIRCULAR FISHEYE from Sigma.

I looked for a use for it for a long time, but in vain. For a long time it was a gadget until I found it interesting. Increase the curvature of the earth.

Also, although it is a bit heavy and bulky (0.4Kg) it is still part of my cabin baggage just to try to make another photo like this one.

9.47am, in flight for 20 minutes northbound, I am now flying over the Netherlands.

Bruinisse, Zeeland

It is a village belonging to the Dutch municipality of Schouwen-Duiveland, located in the province of Zealand. On December 31, 2008, the village had 4,017 inhabitants.

Bruinisse was an independent municipality until January 1, 1997. On that date, the municipality merged with the other municipalities of the island, to form only one municipality, named after the island, Schouwen-Duiveland.

9:52 am, Here I am now above The Hague.

It is a city located on the North Sea coast in the western part of the Netherlands. Its Gothic-style Binnenhof (or inner courtyard) is the seat of the country's parliament, and the 16th-century Noordeinde Palace houses the king's study. The city is also known as the seat of the UN International Court of Justice, located in the Peace Palace, and the International Criminal Court. 52°4'25.94" N 4°18'35.63" E

9:59 am, In the distance I see a world according to Jules Vernes. Something that seems to resemble the apocalypse in Steam Punk style. Better yet, I see Isengard in the service of Mordor. I see the order of the white hand, I see industry.

This chimney that smokes in the distance is that of the Nuon Power Plant.

The company operates in the Netherlands, has more than 2.4 million customers and employs around 4,200 people.

The main shareholders of Nuon were the provinces of Gelderland, Friesland, North Holland and the municipality of Amsterdam.

After an aborted merger project of 24 billion euros in 2007 with Essent, its Dutch counterpart, Nuon was bought in 2009 by the Swedish Vattenfall for a total of 10.5 billion euros.

On July 27, 2011, Nuon Belgium was acquired by the Italian oil company ENI: "NV Nuon Energy, a subsidiary of Vattenfall AB, entered into a definitive agreement with Eni for the sale of the Belgian activities of Vattenfall for a sum of approximately 157 million d euros, based on company value The transaction includes Nuon Belgium SA, which covers around 550,000 electricity and gas connections, as well as its subsidiaries Nuon Wind Belgium SA and Nuon Power Generation Walloon SA.

A well-contested fireplace.

10:07 am, I land at Amsterdam Schiphol

I'm good to spend the next 4 hours in Duty Free at Schiphol Airport.

It's time for a good coffee.

2:40 p.m., I'm on the plane. Place 59K. On a Boeing 777 300 ER, this represents the very last window seat on the right. I like being in the rear. Although it is more likely to smell of kerosene, on takeoff when the aircraft starts to raise its nose, the acceleration vector increases in the rear. Great feeling of speed just before leaving the ground. For photos, it's a bit more complicated. In this place the reactor creates a large hazy area. We will live with it. Well placed, this area can give the effect of depth of field which tends to make the scene tiny. Then the seats in front of the wings cost a fortune.

2:58 p.m., Finally I leave the premises. Goodbye Schiphol, goodbye Duty free, where life is more expensive.

52°22'26.95" N 4°53'49.43" E

3:01 p.m.,

Seen from the sky, we understand very well why this country is called the Netherlands.

When we walk there, apart from not seeing a mountain, we do not realize how much water has infiltrated the land.

In the Netherlands, water management is an ongoing struggle that influences the culture of the country and the worldview of the inhabitants. As a result, the threat of water in the delta region has been transformed into a unique opportunity to innovate and advance "Nederlandse Delta Technology" (literally, Dutch technology for delta areas).

Nederlandse Delta Technology is the integrated Dutch approach to living in a delta area. In addition to water management and hydraulic engineering, this technology encompasses areas such as land use planning and ecology. All of this provides innovative solutions for water management in the Netherlands.

3:30 p.m. Night falls suddenly and telling you the time begins to no longer make sense.

11:21 p.m., day breaks. Where am I? I don't know exactly.

I try to get an idea based on the time and what I see out the window.

It must be a piece of Russia. I wonder what kind of life we can have around here.

11.51pm, Finally the sea, finally I leave this immensely large block that is Russia.

As I fly over the Primorial Krai from the north, I see Rudnaya Pristan in the distance.

Lead smelting has been the town's main industry since a factory was built in 1930. The factory has provided stable employment for most families in the area since then, but at enormous cost to the health of the residents. and the local environment. Residents suffer from a number of health problems, including an excessively high cancer rate, and the soil has become heavily contaminated with lead-related byproducts.

12:05 am, The Sea of Japan.

Over the centuries, this sea has been called the "East Sea", "Korean Sea", "Sea of Japan", or even "East Sea". In the majority of countries, the usual designation today is "Sea of Japan", and has been since at least 1787. This is the case in Japan where it is called Nihonkai (日本海), in China - Rebennai (日本海) - and in Russia - Iaponskoié morié (Япо́нское мо́ре). However, in the Republic of Korea it is called the "East Sea" (동해, 東海, Donghae), and in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, "Korea East Sea" (조선 동해, 朝鮮 東海, Joseon Donghae).

The name of "Sea of Japan" was the official name retained by the International Hydrographic Organization in 1928. The Koreans denounce this designation decided on at the Monaco conference, deploring that they were unable to participate as a nation. independent, the country being under Japanese occupation at that time. The name of the Sea of Japan is one of the themes of the claims of Korean patriots, who have been trying since the post-war period to change international usage.

12:52 a.m., Japan.

In Japan, rice fields are exploited all over the country, from the island of Hokkaidō in the north to the Ryūkyū islands in the south of the Japanese archipelago.

Most of the rice fields are located in plains, such as the Kantō Plain, or in the basins of major rivers. However, terrace cultivation is also widespread.

In order to prevent the overproduction of rice, the Japanese government has implemented a program to reduce the area of cultivable land intended for rice cultivation. Thus, from 1995 to 2010, the extent of all Japanese rice fields increased from 2,100,000 ha to 1,600,000 ha. In addition, due to the aging of the Japanese population, many agricultural farms are abandoned.

12:53 am, As I fly over the Higashiibaraki District, my old friend, Mount Fuji, looms in the distance, which is close to 200km from my position.

12:57 am Kamisu, its port and these factories like the Shinagawa Refractories corporation.

This company helps industries that need access to very high temperatures.

1:00 a.m., Chōshi (銚 子 市) is a city in Chiba Prefecture.

The Chōshi Peninsula has been inhabited since the Stone Age, approximately 23,000 years ago.

The city of Chōshi was founded on February 11, 1933. In the same year, the cities of Motochōshi and Nishichōshi were incorporated into Chōshi. 35° 14′ 51″ N, 136° 58′ 20″ E

01:03, Chiba prefecture (千葉 県, Chiba-ken)

The prefecture of Chiba was founded on June 15, 1873 by the merger of the prefectures of Kisarazu and Inba. Historically, the prefecture covers the feudal provinces of Kazusa (上 総), Shimōsa (下 総) and Awa (安 房). The grouping of these three provinces was called at the time Bōsō (房 総). 1h31, Narita
